The Resonate Music Community
Resonate Music are leaders in the music community in the Redlands, teaching people of all ages the art of music and performance through music tuition, rock band programs, school guitar programs and performance days.
John and his team at Resonate Music (previously JP Guitar Studio) are passionate about the importance of music for everyone. They sre strong supporters of music in the Redlands community and are continuing to introduce programs to encourage emerging musicians and foster a love of music for all ages.
For more than seven years they have run:
- the School Guitar Program at Birkdale State School
- the Infinity Rock Band, giving kids real industry skills
- Student Performance Days celebrating each student’s hard work and commitment to their instrument.
More recently, the team at Resonate Music are making music even more accessible through the Rock Band Program for 10-18 year olds to provide expert guidance and mentoring from industry professionals.
These programs allow the Resonate Music team to share and nurture the love of music in the community.

There is so much more to learning an instrument than lessons.
The team at Resonate Music are an experienced community of musicians to inspire and support your musical journey.
At the start of each year, John gives students the opportunity to audition for the Infinity Rock Band. Once the students are selected to join the rock band, they rehearse weekly and also have performance opportunities throughout the year.
These students learn real industry skills in a practical, performance based scenario. Their skill level increases to the point where they have learnt their music by memory so they can completely embrace the art of performance and entertain their audience.
Resonate Music hosts Beginner Guitar Programs in primary schools in the Redlands area. Their longest running program has been going for more than 7 years at Birkdale State School.
These programs provide a friendly environment for students wanting to learn the guitar, where they feel comfortable in a familiar environment with their peers.
The School Guitar Program is held after school and on the school grounds.
Classes are kept small with only 6 – 8 students for quality instructions. All students start at a beginner level to learn:
- the basics of guitar
- basic chords
- scales
- reading music
- TAB
Within a few weeks, the students are beginning to learn how to play popular songs.
Performances are held towards the end of the year so parents, friends and families can see their child’s improvement and confidence on the instrument and performing.
The guitar program acts as a fantastic stepping stone for students to reach out into the industry, with many
students attending private lessons at our studio after some time in the beginner guitar program.

The long-awaited Rock Band Program is starting in Term 4, 2023 for 10 – 18 year olds.
John Prefontaine and Steve Powell will provide expert guidance and support with weekly rehearsals for your rock band and performances every school holidays.
As industry professionals their experience will help you get started in the right direction, with rehearsals in Resonate Music’s premium rehearsal space using their impressive equipment.

School Holiday Workshops take place during the June / July school holidays and are a great way to consolidate student’s learning and practise with like-minded musicians.
Students practise the same pieces during terms and then collaborate during the workshops over a 4 day period to prepare for a performance for family and friends on the Saturday.
With the expert guidance of John, Steve and Hannah, students gain skills working together with each to combine their individual pieces and play as part of a band.
It’s a lot of fun and a great opportunity. Register early so you don’t miss out.
Each year Resonate Music students are given the amazing opportunity to take part in the Student Performance Day.
This performance is held at a professional venue, with top of the range backline and PA.
This is a fantastic opportunity for each and every student to show friends and family the fruits of all their hard work and determination – giving them a huge sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
